Al Widing, Sr. 76, of Mio, Michigan [L], Mrs. Widing and Al Widing, Jr., 49, of Fenton, Michigan, just after the father & son team had finished the Weyerhaeuser AuSable River Canoe Marathon in 16:40:55 [16 hours, 40 minutes, 55 seconds], to take 18th place of 59 teams that started the race! This was Al Widing, Sr.'s 30th Marathon entered, he has finished 27, and has completed all of the Triple Crown of Canoe Racing events since its inception 10 years ago.
[L] Denis Berthiame, of Pre'vost, Quebec, [bow] and partner Tony Short, of Indian River, Michigan, [stern] [R] John Sullivan, of Grayling, Michgian, and partner Louis Berthaiume, of Berthiville, Quebec.
The two teams are putting in the river after the Foote Dam portage...the last portage in the race. Denis & Tony sprinted to the finish to take second place from John & Louis. Last year Louis finished second with John Sullivan and Denis finished fourth.
