Weyerhaeuser Au Sable River Canoe Marathon Entry List

The 59th Annual
Weyerhaeuser Au Sable River Canoe Marathon is two weeks away and sixty-six (66)
teams have already entered the event. The Weyerhaeuser Au Sable Canoe Marathon
is North America’s richest, longest
non-stop canoe race. Racers encounter a course traveling 120 Miles through Northern
Michigan race running from Grayling Michigan beginning 9:00 pm Saturday Night July 29, 2006 and
concluding downriver in Oscoda Michigan around
12:00 pm (noon) on Sunday July 30, 2006.
The 2006 Weyerhaeuser Au Sable
River Canoe Race features teams from twelve United
States, two Canadian Provinces and
one foreign country: Belize. Other
fast facts:
- Ten (10) mixed teams (one man and one
woman) have entered the race
- Two women’s teams have entered the race
- Seven teams are father and son teams
- Twenty Seven of this years competitors are
1st time entrants to the Au Sable River Canoe Marathon
- 81
(eighty-one) year old Al Widing Sr. is entering his 34th Marathon with
63 (sixty-three) year old partner Robert Bradford of Lapeer Michigan
- Three paddlers are the minimum age (fifteen
years old) entering the race
Since 1947, the Weyerhaeuser Au
Sable River Canoe Marathon has been the premier canoe race in the United Sates.
Over 50,000 fans come to Northern Michigan to
witness the “Worlds Toughest Spectator Race”
