The career Marathon Ranking System is a combined tally of the race results over the history of the race. It is a ranking of career performance for each paddler. Each paddler in the winning canoe receives 100 points, second place 90 points and so on down to 10th place with 10 points awarded to each paddler. Points are scored only by finishing in the top 10.
The Ranking System is not intended to determine how good one paddler is versus another. That would be a subjective and academic judgement based on personal opinion. The ranking system is an objective effort to acknowledge the career acomplishments of the most successful racers over the many years the Marathon has been conducted.
